Welcome to Recess, a moment to slip away from the noise and make something just because. Each ritual is a tiny reminder that curiosity is a muscle, and imagination is how we keep it moving.
Let’s play!
When’s the last time you checked in with your younger self?
Today we’re making a little gift to remind them that they’re still part of us and always worthy of our care and attention.
Before you think, “I don’t have flowers,” don’t trip. Your bouquet can be anything: flowers, herbs, LEGO bricks, seashells, feathers, matchbooks, tiny trinkets that make your inner child light up. You could even blow up a few balloons and call it a day. Whatever sparks your joy!
I’ll be outside gathering herbs and wildflowers from the garden. As I pick, I’ll think about the me who used to bike for hours around the neighborhood, backpack full of CDs (yes, CDs), dreaming up whole worlds. She deserves to be seen, honored, and remembered.
Let’s Get Started
Gather your materials. From the garden, your desk, the kitchen, or anywhere that sparks inspiration.
Press play. Pick a playlist that takes you back to your favorite childhood memories. Or vibe out to the mix I found for you (below).
Build your bouquet. Don’t overthink it. Move intuitively, let your instincts lead, and remember to enjoy the process.
Admire your creation. Feel the connection. Feel the care you’re giving your younger self, and the care that self has always given you. This is love.
Set your bouquet somewhere you’ll see it. Let it remind you that the person you were, the dreams you held, and the wonder you felt are still part of your life.
And if you feel like sharing, drop a pic in the comments — I’d love to see your joy IRL.
Enjoy your recess!
Don’t forget to hit play on the mix before you start. A little music makes everything better.
